It's Scranton Native and Syracuse Basketball Star Gerry McNamara! Ever since the Red Barons promotional schedule was released in March, fans keptlooking at the August 19 promotion wondering exactly what it meant. The line simplyread "Mystery" Bobblehead Doll Giveaway. It is no longer a mystery. Scranton native, Syracuse basketball star and now professional basketball hopefulGerry McNamara will be honored by his hometown team with his very own bobbleheaddoll. The first 6,000 fans through the gates at the August 19 game vs. Rochester (7:00p.m.) will receive the bobblehead doll, compliments of the Scranton Times-Tribuneand the Citizens Voice. Each doll features McNamara wearing his famous #3 Syracuse jersey. Ever since his high school playing days at Bishop Hannon High School, "G-Mac" hasbuilt an amazing local following. At Syracuse University, many fans, sometimes inthe thousands, would make the two hour trek up interstate 81 to see their hometownhero play. While playing at Bishop Hannon he averaged 23.6 points, 5.4 rebounds, 7.2 assistsand 3.8 steals per game as a senior. He finished his scholastic career ranked as theseventh all-time leading scorer in Pennsylvania history (2,917 points) and hisschool posted records of 28-3, 27-4, 24-7 and 30-3 during his four campaignsincluding one state championship. He averaged 13.3 points and 4.4 assists per game as a freshman starter at Syracuse,helping the Orangemen to a 2003 national title. G-Mac was a unanimous selection tothe Big East All-Rookie Team and was also named to the All-Final Four Team. He finished his Syracuse University career ranked fourth in scoring with 2,099points, second in steals (258) and third in assists (648). McNamara is currently playing for the Orlando Magic's Summer League team whichbegins play today at 3:00 p.m. vs. the New Jersey Nets summer team.
