Imperiali Organization Acquires Miami Basketball Team from ABA13 July 2006
LAS VEGAS, NV & MIAMI, FL -- From the bright lights of Las Vegas, the Imperiali Organization announced that it has acquired the rights to operate a team in the greater Miami/Ft. Lauderdale market in the American Basketball Association (ABA). If all goes well, the team will be in action for the upcoming 2006-2007 season. The Imperiali Organization currently is the majority of another ABA franchise, the Palm Beach Imperials. The Imperials, led by General Manager and Head Coach Lamont Carr, have established themselves as one of the premier ABA franchises, posting a 4-1 record during the summer exhibition season. The Miami team, which has yet to be named, will bring a level of exciting basketball that fans have not experienced from other efforts. Previously, the Florida PitBulls fielded a team in the ABA, with high ticket prices and poor attendance and marketing. The Florida PitBulls were removed from the ABA due to irreconcilable differences with the league. The Imperiali Organization believes that Miami/South Beach is the right market for basketball during these exciting times. "With the Miami Heat winning the NBA championship, we feel this is the city to be in for great basketball," Dan Mangru of Imperiali said. "We are very excited to be a part of the Miami market, and we feel sure this will be a big plus for basketball fans in the South Florida area." The Heat put the exclamation point on their stellar season with a 4-2 championship series win over the Dallas Mavericks less than a month ago. The Imperiali Organization hopes its newest acquisition can keep Miami in the news in the basketball world and build a solid tradition of fan-friendly, affordable, ABA basketball in the South Florida area.
