NBA Draft and MLB All Star Voting Entice Memorabilia Collectors

13 July 2006

Warren, OH (PRWEB) July 12, 2006 -- Sports memorabilia is a thriving industry that continues to grow. Autographed baseball jersey, cards, balls and hats are among some of the most highly collected memorabilia. Basketball memorabilia is also quickly gaining more popularity as savvy collectors look to the NBA Draft to predict the stars of tomorrow.

«I usually try to buy autographed jerseys from as many of the first round draft picks in the NBA as possible,» David Casey, 33, New York, explains. «You have to figure these guys are the next Jordan, Shaq or Kobe,» Casey continues. Casey, like many sports memorabilia collectors scout the amateur drafts in order to start collecting what may turn out to be highly collectible jerseys, balls and other memorabilia.

«I got Derek Jeter's autograph right after he signed with the Yankees. I also got a signed ball from Jeter from each All Star game he has appeared in,» Joseph Melillo, 35, New Jersey explains. «These autographed baseballs are already quite valuable and will continue to be. I try to go to the All Star games so I can get autographs from the biggest stars every year,» Melillo continues.

Sports memorabilia from rookies to Hall of Fame inductees continue to skyrocket in value. With savvy investors looking to the amateur drafts, as well as to high school and college phenoms for inspiration, sports memorabilia has become a lucrative investment for those willing to do their homework.

«As a sports memorabilia dealer, I take great pride in researching who the stars of today are and the stars of tomorrow so I can help my customers make sound investments,» Andrew Ryan, President, Midwest Sports Authentics, Inc. explains. «Whether they are interested in the memorabilia because they are a true fan of the game, or because they know they are making a sound investment, I view it as my company's responsibility to ensure they are getting the best memorabilia of the very best players,» Ryan continues.

With the NBA Draft complete and baseball's All Star ballots being counted, savvy collectors are lining up to buy the memorabilia of today's stars and tomorrow's stars in all sports.
