Old Schoolhouse Candy Factory Gains National Recognition

24 July 2006

Dallas, TX (PRWEB) July 23, 2006 -- The National Business Association (NBA) today announced that «Old Schoolhouse Candy Factory» would be featured on its website (www.nationalbusiness.org) as its «Member of the Week». A featured «Member of the Week» reaps the benefit of being listed on its home page, electronic newsletter and member mall (www.nationalbusiness.org/mall). The NBA Member Mall gives members the opportunity to promote commerce between themselves and consumers of the Internet community.

The Old Schoolhouse Candy Factory, LLC, is well known for its fabulous gourmet mints. They produce their products primarily for the wedding industry, and also for corporate and personal gifts, for the hotel and catering industry, and are expanding into gourmet candies and chocolates and the frozen foods distribution area.

Sharon Widmer, a partner in the company, states «several years ago, my daughter got married in Manhattan Beach, California. "The most important thing you can bring from Iowa,» she said, «are those marvelous mints." Her wedding guests, without ever knowing where the mints originated from, absolutely raved about the fresh, buttery-rich mint flavor.

I began to wonder if there was a market for such a wonderful and unique dinner mint. A friend and I took the mints to a bridal show to test their popularity. We then knew we must continue with the venture. Everyone who tried the mints absolutely loved them. Even people who don't normally like mints thought they were "heavenly." In 2001, we officially became a company, became a licensed food processing facility and went to work.

We purchased a one-room schoolhouse not far from our house and began renovating it as the namesake and future retail home of the "Old Schoolhouse Candy Factory." Our goal is to offer a variety of unusually delicious candies to wholesale and corporate clients in addition to local retail sales. It's exciting to find and develop unique recipes and then to see orders begin to flow from an area after the candy is served there just once at a wedding or other event. It is also gratifying to be able to offer a pleasant working environment for mothers and students in our rural area who need flexible hours.

Our biggest struggle has been to develop efficient production methods. I highly recommend learning from others in your field rather than trying to figure out everything by trial and error. Sometimes the most obvious solutions can be elusive!»

The Old Schoolhouse Candy Factory (www.bestmints.com) will be featured on the association's home page from 07/21/2006 through 07/27/2006 located at www.nationalbusiness.org.
