Tulsa 66ers Release 06-07 Schedule20 July 2006
TULSA, Okla., July 18, 2006 - The Tulsa 66ers announced today that 19 of their 24 home games will be played on Friday and Saturday nights at Expo Square Pavilion, with only five contests on weekdays, allowing Tulsa families the opportunity to see professional basketball when it best fits their schedules. The 66ers open the 2006-07 NBA Development League season on November 24 with an exciting 50-game schedule featuring 24 home games and 24 away games spread throughout 20 weeks, and the D-League's third-annual Martin Luther King Showcase will add two games to the schedule held on January 15 and 17. "Our schedule couldn't be better," said team president Joe Berry. "With 19 home games falling on either a Friday or Saturday, we can offer our fans from all over Eastern Oklahoma a chance to see professional basketball and have an enjoyable evening of family entertainment at affordable prices." The schedule tips off with consecutive home games against the Arkansas RimRockers beginning Friday and Saturday, November 24-25. Official game times will be announced at a later date. A highlight to the Tulsa 66ers schedule comes when the Los Angeles Laker's wholly owned D-League team will make their debut at the Pavilion on Wednesday, March 7, 2007. The Lakers' D-League team visit will be the only one of the 2006-07 season. Also an exciting addition for Tulsa 66ers fans will be the first appearance by the 2006 NBA Development League Champions, the Albuquerque Thunderbirds, on Saturday, February 10, 2007. Coach Michael Cooper led the T-Birds to the championship, beating the Fort Worth Flyers 119-108. The Thunderbirds' victory gives Coach Cooper a championship at every level under the NBA umbrella. He won five NBA rings as a player for the Los Angeles Lakers and two more titles as head coach of the WNBA's Los Angeles Sparks. There are 12 teams in the D-League this season, each affiliated with one to three NBA teams, giving fans multiple chances to see future NBA stars at Expo Square Pavilion in Tulsa. Midway through the season, All-Stars from the D-League will be showcased during the NBA All-Star Weekend in Las Vegas, Nevada on February 17-18. The D-League All-Star Game will be played on Saturday, February 17 at Jam Session Center Court immediately following practices for the East and West NBA All-Star Teams and will be televised by NBA TV. All-Star selections will be selected by a vote that includes fans, as well as D-League players and coaches. This will give many 66ers players the opportunity to show off their skills to a national audience, as well as give priceless national exposure to Green Country. "We are delighted to have the first D-League All-Star Game as part of NBA All-Star Weekend," D-League President Phil Evans said. "This will be an experience our players will long remember, and coupled with our annual Showcase in January, affords NBA teams an additional avenue to gather at one location to see the best the D-League has to offer." With seven new markets and 12 teams for 2006-07, the D-League will be divided into divisions for the first time. The Arkansas RimRockers, Austin Toros, Dakota Wizards, Fort Worth Flyers, Sioux Falls Sky Force and Tulsa 66ers will comprise the Eastern Division. The Albuquerque Thunderbirds, Anaheim Arsenal, Bakersfield Jam, Colorado 14ers, Idaho Stampede and Los Angeles make up the Western Division.
